Service Types are configured in Setup / Product Catalog / Service / Service Types

Overview #

Service types are used to classify services so they can be organized consistently and used in the correct pricing and product-configuration areas. A service type gives structure to the service catalog and helps determine how a service can be used elsewhere in the product.

Each service type is assigned a Base Type. The base type controls the general billing category of the service type and influences where services of that type can be configured. This makes service types important both for product setup and for keeping pricing behavior aligned with the type of charge being created.

Prerequisites #

There are no required prerequisite setup steps before creating service types.

Service Types Panel #

The Service Types panel on the left displays the available service types. Selecting a service type loads its details on the right so you can review or update it.

Edit Service Type Panel #

The Edit Service Type panel displays the selected service type and is where its settings are maintained.

Fields #

  • Name: The descriptive name for the service type.
  • Base Type: Defines the billing category for the service type and helps determine where services of that type can be configured.

Base Type Values #

The available base types in your environment determine how the service type is used. Common examples include:

  • Recurring Charge: Used for services that are intended to be billed on a recurring basis.
  • Non-Recurring Charge: Used for services that should be added as one-time charges.
  • Fee: Used for services that represent fees, such as activation or termination-related charges.

References Tab #

The References tab shows where the selected service type is already in use. This helps determine the impact of changing the service type and whether it can be deleted.

In most cases, the references identify the services or related configuration items that currently use the selected service type.
