Usage Class Types are configured in Setup / Usage Rating / Rate Types / Class Type

Overview #

The Usage Class Types screen is used to define optional categories that can be assigned to usage classes. A usage class type helps group similar classes together for reporting, mediation analysis, and organizational purposes.

For example, usage class types can be used to distinguish different kinds of voice or messaging usage, such as on-net, off-net, mobile-originating, mobile-terminating, or other business-specific classifications.

The Class Types Panel #

The Class Types panel on the left displays the usage class types that already exist in the system. Select a class type to load its details in the edit panel on the right.

The Edit Class Type Panel #

The panel on the right displays the selected class type and is where you maintain its details.

Main Fields #

  • Name: The unique name of the usage class type.
  • Sort Order: Controls the order in which the class type appears in selection lists. Lower values appear earlier in the list.

References Tab #

The References tab shows where the selected usage class type is currently used in the system. This is helpful when reviewing the impact of changes or determining whether the class type can be deleted.

Depending on the referenced entity, the details shown in the tab can include values such as identity, name, usage rater type, originating identifier, or terminating identifier.

Adding Class Types #

To add a usage class type:

  1. In the Class Types panel, click Add.
  2. Enter the Name.
  3. Enter the Sort Order.
  4. Save the class type.

Editing Class Types #

To edit an existing usage class type:

  1. Select the class type in the Class Types panel.
  2. Update the Name or Sort Order as needed.
  3. Save the changes.

Deleting Class Types #

Note: Class types that are configured on classes or other entities are in use and cannot be deleted (the delete action button will be greyed out in this case). In order to delete a class type in use first check the References tab on the Edit Class Type panel to determine which entities are configured with the class type. Next, proceed to modify those entities to use an alternate class type.

To delete a class type:

  1. Select the class type in the Class Types panel.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. Confirm the deletion when prompted.
